• THE WINDHOEK RANGE OF PREMIUM QUALITY BEERS.

The Windhoek range comprises of three lead variants. Windhoek Lager, Windhoek Light and Windhoek Draught. Windhoek Special is supplied to only a few select markets. Each beer has its own individual character and style and is brewed according to the German Reinheitsgebot (Purity Law) decreed by Duke Wilhelm IV of Bavaria in 1516. This means that Windhoek beers may only be brewed using malted barley, hops and water and may not contain any preservatives, additives, chemicals or colourants.

Windhoek beers are best served icy cold, between 3 - 5 degrees Celsius with a strong head of foam. They can also be enjoyed icy cold straight from the bottle.

  • Windhoek Beer Can

    100% PURE BEER.

At Namibia Breweries, our goal is clear; to brew the finest quality 100% pure beer in the world.

And it is the unwavering dedication and commitment you see in each and every person at the brewery that is making this vision a reality.

Our beer is brewed using only three natural ingredients; the finest quality malted barley, hops and water.

Due to Namibia's harsh climate, we are forced to look beyond our borders for superior quality barley and hops.

All the barley and hops used to produce Windhoek beer comes from a handful of selected suppliers in Germany.

More than that, they're quality tested to comply with our rigorous controls and supplier approval procedures.

From there the ingredients are shipped to Namibia's only seaport - Walvis Bay - and then transported to our brewery outside Windhoek, the capital city of Namibia and the name we gave our beer.

The water we use to brew Windhoek comes from a pristine source in a highland region beyond Windhoek.

With his passion for upholding the values of the Reinheitsgebot, our Master Brewer, Christian Mueller, guides every step of the brewing process as the precious Namibian water is combined with Germany's finest malted barley and hops to culminate in the 100% pure taste of Windhoek.

    THE REINHEITSGEBOT.

At the heart of Windhoek is the Reinheitsgebot. It's the ethos that drives our unwavering commitment to quality.

It's the pride and the craftsmanship that goes into every drop of beer we brew. This is the type of authenticity that makes Windhoek one of the finest beers in the world.

The Reinheitsgebot is the oldest food regulation in the world.

Pronounced ‘Rine-heights-gabought', it translates to Purity (Reinheit) Law (Gebot).

In 1516, to protect the superior quality of German beer, Duke Wilhelm IV of Bavaria proclaimed the Reinheitsgebot that allowed only three natural ingredients in brewing:

    1. Malted barley (Malz) to give beer its colour, contribute to taste and provide nutrients to the yeast during fermentation.
    2. Hops (Hopfen) to give beer its distinctive, fresh and bitter flavour.
    3. Pure water, to bring it all together.

The Reinheitsgebot comes from an age when beer's purity was sacred and preservatives unknown. Nearly 500 years later, Windhoek chooses to uphold this tradition of authenticity and purity. At Namibia Breweries Limited, the Reinheitsgebot is more than just a set of rules. It's a philosophy.

    THE MASTER BREWER.

The Master Brewer is responsible for the quality of the beer produced at the brewery.

From the selection of ingredients to the custodianship of the recipes, the Master Brewer oversees every step of the process of brewing the beer.

It can take up to fifteen years to advance to the position of Master Brewer and it is said their knowledge is equivalent to a master's degree in chemistry.

NAMIBIA BREWERIES' MASTER BREWER, CHRISTIAN MUELLER, ON CREATING 100% PURE BEER.

"I've been at Namibia Breweries for seven years, and chose to become a brewer over twenty years ago. I studied brewing for fifteen years in Germany.

It started with an apprenticeship, then several years of hands-on experience working in a brewery, and finally two years of study in Munich to become a brew master."

"A quality beer is one where you know what is inside.

You know where the ingredients come from; it looks good and tastes good. Windhoek Lager is a full-bodied beer because of the 100% malt ratio; it's slightly more bitter than other lagers and has a beautiful foam head which makes it so distinctive."
